The long way from the tent to the toilet convinced me to carry the camera with me. The first night, when still there was some open space between the tents, there was calm and mystery in the air. And the light of the night contributed to it.

It was no sense to carry the camera around, while we were moving all the camping things, suffering the sun and the heat on the skin. But when I arrived to the car again, with my shoulders screaming in pain, and ready to carry something more, I just surrendered to photography: play with the exposition, aperture, and composition... and take this picture.

No tenía sentido cargar con la cámara por ahí, mientras llevábamos todas las cosas del camping, sufriendo el sol y el calor en la piel. Random compositions like this one sometimes makes me wonder why I like them. What is the interesting thing on this picture? There is really anything interesting? It may be the dialogue between the sun and the shadows, or the grey & orange colour combination surrounding the scene... or it may be that I search for something interesting where there is simply nothing...

I was returning home from the university when I got closer to the tree, after spending about a minute looking at the scene. Finally I turned on the camera and started having photos. The natural shapes of the tree showed a beautiful contrast with the strong and straight lines of the building, and I tried until I got a good silhouette of the branches over the raw structure.

Volvía a casa desde la universidad cuando me acerqué al árbol, después de pasar como un minuto mirando la escena. Finalmente, encencí la cámara y empecé a tomar fotos. Las formas naturales del árbol mostraban un bonito contraste con las líneas rectas y fuertes del edificio, y lo intenté hasta que conseguí una buena silueta de las ramas sobre la cruda estructura.

I found this cleansing cart quite disturbing, and I couldn't avoid stealing a photo. It was alone on a dark corridor, under the single light in a long stretch. I was walking while I was reading something, and suddenly I noticed it: silent, threatening. Although I must confess I'm also quite fearful.

There is some abstract and simple compositions impossible to avoid. This lamp inside the faculty seemed so strange to me that I had to handle the camera and shoot. There is absolutely nothing on the composition, except for the geometrical lamp. But the colour, the white shape, the shadow on the wall... it's so irresistible...

I love taking photographs to abstract architechture scenes. Usually I discover myself watching at pictures with no more interest than a few geometrical shapes, with no colour and no traces of life. I think it's only composition, balance, light and shadows. I couldn't say what I find so attractive on this picture... it may be the loss of human scale, the unusual of the forms and the contrasty geometry.

Me encanta hacer fotos a escenas abstractas de arquitectura. Habitualmente me sorprendo mirando imágenes que no tienen más interés que un puñado de formas geométricas, sin color ni huellas de vida. Creo que es sólo composición, equilibrio, luz y sombras. No podría decir qué encuentro tan atractivo en esta imagen... puede que sea la pérdida de la escala humana, lo inusual de las formas y la geometría tan contrastada.

I always wanted to take some photographs inside a subway wagon. But I don't think the other people agree with it. So, when I'm moving with the subway, I have to look only at the empty corners of the wagon, what usually bores me. But not this time, in which I captured a simple scene of the bars that seemed very interesting.

Siempre he querido hacer algunas fotos dentro de un vagón del metro. Pero no creo que los demás estén de acuerdo con ello. Así que, cuando voy en metro, tengo que mirar a los rincones vacíos del vagón, lo que suele aburrirme. Small corners still astound us with curious pictures. I walked a lot of times in front of this wall and I never noticed those flowers, until my girlfriend showed it to me. I think there is too much beauty inside the city to be captured, too much single scenes, too much unbelievable corners. There is too much work to do with the camera. As for me, I will carry it with me every single day: I won't miss a single detail.

Los pequeños rincones siguen sorprendiéndonos con imágenes curiosas. He pasado cientos de veces delante de esta pared y nunca me había dado cuenta de esas flores, hasta que mi novia me las mostró. Creo que en la ciudad hay demasiada belleza para ser capturada, demasiadas escenas únicas, demasiados rincones increíbles. Hay mucho trabajo que hacer con la cámara. Por mi parte, la llevaré conmigo cada día: no voy a perder un sólo detalle.

Sometimes, and often in photography, I like to check the rule "less is more". The more simple is the scene, the better the result you get. This one was only a focal test, it wasn't a very studied photograph, but the composition makes me wonder what does it have to attract me in that way.

This one was the only open window in the whole building, in a wall entirely made of glass. All the wall was reflecting the outside, so, when I found the only chink to the inside, it was the perfect moment to shoot. It was the perfect scene between public and private.

Road means movement. So, when I decided to shoot (again) the road, after searching for a likely angle, I waited for the cars to cross the scene. In the only picture I took of this road, I got exactly what I was waiting for: the road at the first term, being used by a car, slightly disappearing on the top of the scene.

The professor offices building always called my atention. The long and bright corridor, with several identic doors in a wall and a continuous window on the other wall, always makes me take my camera up and try to get it, often unsuccessfully. But the last time I got a different view that I use to get, leaving the camera on the floor, and obtaining an asymmetrical and more interesting picture.

El edificio de despachos de profesores siempre ha llamado mi atención. El pasillo largo y luminoso, con numerosas e idénticas puertas en un lado y una ventana continua en el otro, siempre hace que saque la cámara e intente conseguir esa vista, a menudo de forma poco afortunada. Pero la última vez conseguí una vista diferente de las que suelo hacer, dejando la cámara en el suelo, y obteniendo una imagen asimétrica y más interesante.

I saw this picture before I got it. I just put the camera closer to the ground, with no viewing through it, and shot. And, as I said, it was exactly as I saw. It may haven't got the correct exposition, but it shows a strong geometry and simmetry, and it is so uninteresting enough to make me look and search for "something more".

Vi esta imagen antes de conseguirla. Simplemente puse la cámara cerca del suelo, sin mirar a través de ella, y disparé. Y, como he dicho, fue exactamente como la había visto. I love finding broken windows with old bars inside the city. It's something special, it seems like the different one, like an excluded. Something beautiful being forgotten and ignored by the people around it. So this is the least I could do: rescue it from oblivion.

"Get out of here". That's what I thought when I saw this strongly closed entrance. And I could not resist stealing the picture: a chained and locked fence before a huge metal door, and with all the twisted geometry at first term in comparison with the straight & correct perspective behind. Too much attractive.

"Largo de aquí". Es lo que pensé cuando vi esta entrada cerrada tan a conciencia. Y no me pude resistir a robar la imagen: una valla cerrada con cadena y candado delante de una puerta enorme de metal, y con toda esa geometría retorcida en primer término comparada con la recta y correcta perspectiva de atrás. Demasiado atractivo.

In front of a narrow street, I found this ruined building, rising proudly above the shadows. I like when I find partialy demolished buildings like this one, where you can see the walls in which people lived, bricks that the lodgers touched, watched everyday, and left one day forever. Certainly, it seemed very sad to me.

Frente a una calle estrecha, encontré este edificio en ruinas, elevándose orgulloso sobre las sombras. Me gusta cuando encuentro edificios parcialmente demolidos como éste, donde puedes ver las paredes en las que la gente vivió, ladrillos que los inquilinos tocaron, vieron cada día, hasta que un dia abandonaron para siempre. Ciertamente, me pareció bastante triste.

Under a big tree, because of the amount of light above, the picture obtained shows a full contrast of nearly-black and nearly-white. The two big branches crosses in a diagonal way, giving a different point of the almost abstract composition. I must confess I didn't expected this result, made of a low exposition, but I liked it more than the one I attempted.

Bajo un gran árbol, debido a la gran cantidad de luz encima, la imagen obtenida muestra un completo contraste entre casi negro y casi blanco. Las dos grandes ramas cruzan en diagonal, añadiendo un punto diferente a la composición prácticamente abstracta. Debo confesar que no esperaba este resultado, consecuencia de una baja exposición, pero me gustó más que el que yo intentaba.

The night lights becomes unreal, phantasmagoric, magical. There is no bigger admiration for me than the strange night lightning, which provides the city of a mysterious aura. This one is a commonly visited building for me, but it turns darker, even "evil", at night.

Las luces de la noche se vuelven irreales, fantasmagóricas, mágicas. No hay mayor admiración para mí que la extraña iluminación de la noche, que proporciona a la ciudad un aura misteriosa. Éste es un edificio que veo habitualmente, pero se vuelve oscuro, incluso "malvado", por la noche.

The small details makes life interesting. Walking around with the camera makes me open my eyes to a completely unnoticed world. It makes me struggle to see and discover more things. Only for that reason it's worth carrying the camera everywhere.

Los pequeños detalles hacen la vida interesante. Caminar por ahí con la cámara me hace abrir los ojos a un mundo completamente desapercibido. Me hace esforzarme para ver y descubrir más cosas. Sólo por ese motivo merece la pena cargar con la cámara en todas partes.

I was at the university taking some photographs and started playing with the polarizing filter. The black skies are unbelievable in a bright spring afternoon, so I was very surprised of the effect. The result, in my opinion, it's something to keep in mind. The building didn't suffer much variations between the ones with filter and the other ones: it remained impassive.

Estaba en la universidad haciendo algunas fotos y empecé a utilizar el filtro polarizador. Los cielos negros son poco creíbles en una luminosa tarde de primavera, así que me sorprendió bastante el efecto. El resultado, en mi opinión, es algo a tener en cuenta. El edificio no sufrió demasiadas variaciones entre las fotos con filtro y las otras: permaneció impasible.

I was prepairing the scene for a photo session, when I noticed the big stains on the floor. I didn't pick up the cable of the flashes, I liked the composition as it appeared to me, with all it's mistery: may the marks on the wall were made by a flood? What made the red stains? How much time passed until I found it...?

No recogí el cable de los flashes, me gustó la composición tal cual se me apareció, con todo su misterio: ¿puede que las manchas de la pared fueran ocasionadas por una inundación? ¿Qué provocó las manchas rojizas? ¿Cuánto tiempo pasó hasta que yo lo encontré...?

Why are so interesting the walls? They all have the scars of time, the marks of the inclement weather & the elements, and also the hand of the man, fixing and repairing them constantly. They are a map of their own story, of their own life. I love watching at the walls.

Todas tienen las cicatrices del tiempo, las marcas de las inclemencias del tiempo y los elementos, y también la mano del hombre, arreglando y reparándolas constantemente. Every time I leave my apartment, I go down these upstairs, and I think there is a good photograph in them. And well, may not the best, but for me this one appears interesting. I just did only one shot, and I knew it was enough to get it.

I had this picture for a week and I hadn't decided to put it here yet, but now it's the time. Slightly inclined, and out of focus at the first term, this is the only photo I took in this angle. I put the camera on the ground, shot, and continued walking. It was surprisely good exposed, and the result was very interesting. However, I wish I had spent more time there.

Tenía esta imagen una semana y todavía no había decidido subirla, pero es la hora. Ligeramente inclinada, y fuera de foco en un primer término, es la única foto que tomé desde este ángulo. Puse la cámara en el suelo, disparé, y seguí andando. Salió sorprendentemente bien expuesta, y el resultado fue realmente interesante. Sin embargo, ojalá hubiese invertido más tiempo allí.

Sometimes is nice to find defined structures or geometric lines in natural elements. Maybe it's the eye who is searching for it, or maybe it's just a question of luck. I don't remember what I thought when I took this photograph, but now I can't keep my eyes off the sky-blue diagonal crossing it, and makes me wonder how a picture so anodyne, with nothing happening on it, can cause me this attraction. Maybe it's the color of the sky? Or it may be the casual elements, like the inclined lamp or the almost white branches, that (un)balances the picture?

A veces es agradable encontrar estructuras definidas o líneas geométricas en elementos naturales. Quizá es el ojo quien está buscándolas, o quizá es sólo cuestión de suerte. No recuerdo qué pensé cuando hice esta foto, pero ahora no puedo quitar los ojos de la diagonal azul cielo que la cruza, y me hace preguntarme cómo una foto tan anodina, en la que nada está ocurriendo, puede causarme esta atracción. ¿Quizá es el color del cielo? ¿O puede que sean los elementos casuales, como la farola inclinada o las ramas casi blancas, que (des)equilibran la imagen?

I think every corner of a building has a potential photography. But I also think not every corner it's attractive enough for it. I've shot several times like this one but I haven't got too many good results. So, the building has something to say about it's potential photography after all.

The same view but about four hours later. This time I put the camera on the window and made a long exposition (3 secs). Now there's a rich and colorful picture, in comparison with the previous one. I tried along the afternoon, but getting darker was getting interesting too. I think it has a beautiful contrast between the blues in the sky and the reds on the ground, which provides the picture of a subtle mistery.

La misma vista pero unas cuatro horas después. Esta vez puse la cámara en la ventana e hice una exposición más larga (de unos 3 segundos). Conseguí una imagen más rica y colorida, en comparación con la anterior. Estuve intentándolo durante la tarde, pero conforme oscurecía se hacía más interesante. Creo que tiene un bonito contraste entre los azules del cielo y los rojos del suelo, lo que le proporciona un misterio sutil a la imagen.

Another view from my room, this time the most contemplated view. I liked the grey and slightly rainy day, so I took several photographs around, and this one shocked me when, later in the computer, I noticed the huge hole in the sky with no clouds, and the blurry sensation that floats on the picture. I also loved the color on this photograph, with any saturation, as grey as the day.

Otra vista desde mi habitación, esta vez la vista más contemplada. Me gustó el día gris y un poco lluvioso, así que hice varias fotos, y ésta me impactó cuando, después en el ordenador, me di cuenta del gran agujero en el cielo, sin nubes, y la sensación borrosa que flota en la  imagen. También me encantó el color de la fotografía, sin ninguna saturación, tan gris como el día.

I spent last weekend on my parent's house, and being at home it's always a good time to shoot around. This view it's only one of the three you can see from my room, and I always have tried to get it correctly. Although this one may not be the perfect shot ever, I liked it, and I definitively consider it as decent for showing.

Pasé este fin de semana en casa de mis padres, y estar en casa siempre se convierte en un buen momento para hacer fotos. Esta vista es una de las tres que se pueden observar desde mi habitación, y siempre he intentado conseguirla correctamente. Aunque quizá esta no sea la toma perfecta, me gustó, y por fin la he podido considerar decente para mostrar.

I used to shoot a lot of wide-angled pictures, but recently I left it for a while, and did some other type of photography. However, I come back to wide-angle unconsciously again and again. And I must confess that doesn't matter what is in front of the camera: when horizontal & vertical lines get curved... it's a kind of magic.

Solía disparar cantidad de veces en modo gran angular, pero últimamente lo he dejado un poco de lado y he estado haciendo otro tipo de fotografía. Sin embargo, vuelvo al gran angular inconscientemente una y otra vez. Y debo confesar que no importa qué se ponga delante de la cámara: cuando las líneas horizontales y verticales se curvan... se trata de algo mágico.
